ScoreBanter is a score keeper for card, dice and table games, made by LFore LLC ("we", "us"). It keeps your players and games on your iPhone. This page explains what the app stores, what it sends, and who gets it. ScoreBanter is in testing now, so some features below are marked as planned. We'll update this page before a version that changes how data is handled ships.
The short version: player names are never sent to xAI or to us. Today, commentary lines are written on your phone and nothing goes to xAI. When AI commentary arrives, xAI will see only seat IDs like "P7" and game facts. Your location will never be sent to us or to xAI. ScoreBanter has no accounts, no ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking, and we never sell data.
What stays on your iPhone
- Players: names, nicknames, a seat ID for each player (P1, P2 and so on), a color and each player's record.
- Photos: an optional photo for each player. Photos stay on the iPhone that took them. They aren't synced and aren't put in Save a copy or a shared roster. Today, photos are part of your iCloud or computer device backup like other app data. A planned update will leave them out of device backups, which means they won't come back if you restore onto a new phone.
- Games: game type, scores for each hand and results.
- Settings and votes: your Personality level, switches, appearance, and your thumbs up and down on commentary lines. Votes are saved with seat IDs, never with names. The app keeps the last 80.
- Crown and places (planned): when Crown ships, the app will store who holds the title for each game and place, and where each finished game was played (see Location below).
App data is part of your normal iCloud device backup if you have that turned on. Apple handles those backups under Apple's privacy policy.
iCloud sync between your own devices
Today, your ScoreBanter data stays on this iPhone and nothing syncs. A future version will add optional sync of your players, games, titles and places through your private iCloud account. That copy will be in your iCloud, not ours, and we won't be able to see or open it. Photos will never sync.
Commentary
Today, ScoreBanter writes its commentary lines on your phone from the game facts. Nothing is sent to xAI or to us.
A planned update will add commentary written by xAI. Before anything leaves your phone, the app will swap every name and nickname for that player's seat ID, including every word of a multi-word nickname. When the line comes back, your phone puts the names back in. If that swap fails, you see a plain score line instead.
For each line, the app will send:
- seat IDs (P1, P7) in place of names
- the game, the scores and what happened in the hand (for example who went out or busted)
- earlier lines in this game, your Personality level, and who holds the title for a game (for example "P7 is Champ of Euchre"), all by seat ID
- up to 4 lines your table liked and 4 it voted down, by seat ID
- any custom game names or house rules, with names swapped for seat IDs first
It will never send names, photos, your location or place names to xAI.
Requests will go through a small LFore server that holds our xAI key. We will turn on xAI's Zero Data Retention for ScoreBanter, so xAI processes each request to write the line and doesn't keep it. We'll add details about that server here before AI commentary ships.
There's no sign-up and no consent screen, because no names are sent.
Commentary is read aloud by your iPhone's built-in voice, on the phone. No audio goes to xAI or to us.
Location
When Crown ships, ScoreBanter will use your precise location to pin each finished game on your Crown map, so you can see exactly where every game was played, like a house, a course or a restaurant.
- It will ask for "While Using the App" permission the first time a game finishes or you open the Crown map, never at launch.
- You can turn Precise off in the iOS prompt. The map then uses your approximate area and shows the town.
- If you say no, or the phone can't get a fix, you can type a town instead. You can change a game's place later the same way.
- Coordinates and place names stay on your devices (and in your private iCloud once sync is available). They are never sent to xAI, to our server, in a feedback email, in a shared roster, or in any log.
- The map and place lookups use Apple Maps. Apple receives what's needed to show the map and look up places, which can include your location, under Apple's privacy policy. We never receive it.
- You can turn location off at any time in iOS Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
Sending us feedback
Settings has a Send feedback row. It opens an email to hi@lfore.com from your own mail app, and nothing goes until you tap Send. The app fills in only the ScoreBanter version and build, your iPhone model and your iOS version. No names, scores or game data are added. We get your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to answer you and fix the app.
Our email is hosted by Apple iCloud Mail, and ScoreBanter feedback may also be forwarded to a Gmail inbox we read. We keep feedback emails for up to 24 months. Email hi@lfore.com any time to ask us to delete yours.
If you test through TestFlight, Apple's TestFlight feedback and crash reports go to us through Apple, under Apple's TestFlight terms.
Sharing from the app
- Share: makes a text summary of a game (names, totals, a commentary line) and hands it to the iOS share sheet. It goes only where you send it.
- Share roster: sends a file by AirDrop with player names, nicknames and seat IDs, so a second phone shows the same names. No photos and no places.
- Save a copy: saves one file of your players, games, settings and votes (by seat ID) wherever you choose. Places will be included once Crown ships. No photos. It's your file and we never see it.
Deleting your data
- Remove a player in Players, or delete a game in History.
- Erase this phone in Settings deletes every player, game, photo and vote on this iPhone. It takes three steps, including typing "erase", so it can't happen by accident. Once iCloud sync is available, you'll also be able to erase the iCloud copy.
- Deleting the app removes its data from this iPhone.
For feedback emails, write to hi@lfore.com.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No ads, third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools, and no tracking across apps and websites.
- We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't build profiles.
- We don't have a copy of your players, photos, places or games.
Age
ScoreBanter is rated 13+ on the App Store because some Personality levels roast hard, and swearing is possible at the top level when you switch it on. Profanity is off by default. The app isn't made for children under 13. A parent can still keep score with kids at the table, since kids' names and photos stay on the phone like everyone else's. If you think a child under 13 has emailed us, write to hi@lfore.com and we'll delete it.
Your rights
You control the data in the app directly: view it, change it, erase it, or delete the app. For anything you've emailed us, write to hi@lfore.com to see it or have it deleted. Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU or the UK), you may have extra rights over your personal information, and we'll honor those requests.
Changes
If ScoreBanter starts handling data differently, we'll update this page before that version ships and change the effective date at the top. For big changes, we'll also tell you in the app.
