Is February a good month for Japan?
For Mt Fuji views, yes. Fuji City's 35-year log found the mountain fully visible on 52.6% of February mornings at 8 AM, vs 9.9% in July. Plum blossoms peak in Tokyo in the second half of February, and early Kawazu cherry blossoms are reported to start Feb 6.
Is four months out too late to book?
No. Ghibli Museum and Romancecar seats are not even on sale yet. The scarce thing is a Hakone ryokan room with a private open-air bath, so book that first.
