Chase Sapphire · Travel card
Start with a big pile of travel points
Sapphire points cover a lot of our family's travel. You put normal spending on the card (groceries, gas, dinners out), pay it off every month, and the points add up toward flights and hotels. The welcome bonus gives you a running start.

Why people love it
The points are flexible. You can book through Chase Travel or move them to airline and hotel partners, and both cards earn extra on dining and travel. There are no foreign transaction fees, so it works on trips abroad. It's also a metal card, which is a small silly thing everyone notices.
How many points would your spending earn?
Put in what your household spends in a typical month. Rates are Chase's published Sapphire Preferred earn rates as of October 26, 2026.
Preferred earn rates used: 5x Chase Travel, 3x dining, 3x gas and EV charging, 3x select streaming, 3x online grocery (exclusions apply), 2x other travel, 1x everything else. Bonus is Chase's public 75,000-point offer after $5,000 in purchases in 3 months; the offer on our link may differ. What a point is worth depends on how you redeem it, so 1.25 cents is a placeholder. The $95 annual fee is subtracted.
Which one should you get?
For most families the Preferred is the easy pick. The fee is small and the points work the same way. Get the Reserve if you travel a lot and know you'll use the travel credit and the other perks. Otherwise the $795 fee eats the value.
| Preferred | Reserve | |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | $95 | $795 |

Good to know
- Pay it in full every month. Interest wipes out the points fast.
- Chase usually says no if you've opened 5 or more personal cards from any bank in the last 24 months.
- Chase limits Sapphire bonuses if you already have a Sapphire card or got a Sapphire bonus recently. The application tells you before it pulls your credit.
- Applying is a hard credit inquiry.
